Thanks for coming to my web page!!
I’m Janette Osborne — a current Rural Councillor on the Waitomo District Council, and I’m standing for Mayor in the 2025 Local Government Election. To reflect my commitment to serving the community in whatever way voters choose, I’m also standing for re-election as a Rural Ward Councillor. I’m here to work constructively with whoever the community elects, and to ensure your voice is heard at the Council table. I am also a current Trustee of the Waitomo Energy Services Customer Trust (WESCT) and Maru Energy Trust and actively involved with community groups including the Waitomo Sister City Committee, Waitomo Caves Museum, Tere Waitomo, and the Creative Communities Assessment Committee. I represent Council on the Waikato Regional Transport Committee. In 2006, I founded Briar Patch, an online wool business that flexes between part-time and full-time as other commitments allow. Running my own business has taught me how to add value, create from scratch, and work in the most cost-effective way. My 150 coloured sheep graze alongside our commercial Perendale flock on our family's 800-hectare sheep and beef farm, run by my husband, Kim. This page is here to help you get to know me better — my experience, values, and what I stand for — so you can make an informed choice this election. I have also written a series on rates which I will be adding to regularly as they are released onto my facebook page Janette Osborne for Mayor - Waitomo DistrictPlease use the menu above or click the links below to explore more details:
Since being elected as a Rural Councillor in 2022, I've regularly shared updates on social media to keep our community informed. On the link below you'll find an archive of my posts from 2022 to 2025 - a record of the work I've done, the issues I've raised, and the conversations I've encouraged. Transparency matters - and I believe you deserve to see not just what candidates say at election time, but how they show up in between. Click below to see these posts by year:

Further ballot boxes are at the Te Kuiti Medical Centre and the Warehouse. |
I’m standing for Mayor because I care deeply about this place, its people, and our shared success. I want a stronger, more connected Waitomo – for us, our children, and those to come. I live and work in the district and proudly serve as a Rural Ward councillor. My campaign is about Fresh Leadership for a Stronger Waitomo – Growing Our Economy, Protecting Our Environment, Strengthening Our Communities, and Keeping Life Affordable. With over 30 years’ experience in governance, finance and strategic leadership – including as a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Director, and former wool industry chair – I bring governance skills, strategic thinking, sound judgement, problem-solving skills and a future-focused mindset. We can’t cost-cut our way to affordability – we need to grow our economy and bring in income from outside the district. I bring fresh energy, local insight, and a proven record of service. Let’s shape a future we’re proud to pass on. |
